Fire and Ice

FIRE and ICE

from the Memoirs of Beryl Cross

Legendary Hollywood gossip columnist, Beryl Cross, now retired and living in England accepts an invitation to West End producer, Cyril Montrose’s country estate where he and other principal artists for his new musical put the finishing touches on the show. When a member of the party is murdered, suspicion falls on everyone present. After Scotland Yard fails to make headway in the case, Beryl Cross resorts to tricks of the trade of her former profession to root out the murderer. Her only knowledge of police procedure is what she has gleaned from the movies (“If you can’t trust Hollywood to get it right, then whom can you trust?”) but she has honed her investigative skills over a lifetime. A gossip columnist may not be as respectable a profession as a detective, but a snoop’s a snoop!
